PRIDE COMES WITH SHAME
PROVERBS 11:1-31
MEMORY VERSE: “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2)
God warns His children all through Scripture against the spirit of pride because of its dangers. Our text today reveals that pride always comes with shame. Anyone who does not want to experience shame must get rid of every form of pride. What is pride? It is overestimating oneself. It is the assumption that we are better than everyone around us. Pride makes people arrogant and pompous. It makes you elevate yourself without waiting for God or for God’s time. That is why it brings shame and reproach.
Pride is not from God; it comes from the devil. Pride makes you become incorrigible, makes you allergic to correction. Pride makes you too much for God. We must get rid of pride and embrace humility, because that is the nature of God. We must also remember that God resists the proud—He fights the proud—but gives grace to the humble. Everyone needs the grace of God to become all that He wants them to be, but grace is only made available to the humble. Pride brings self-destruction; it is like choosing to destroy yourself. No proud person has a future.
Our future lies in our willingness to walk in humility. Proud people do not listen to correction. They are usually rigid, adamant, and unyielding.
WISDOM NUGGET: Looking down on others as nobodies is nothing but a spirit of pride.
PRAYER POINT: Help me to see people the way You see them, in Jesus name.
