PROUD PEOPLE ARE CONTENTIOUS

PROUD PEOPLE ARE CONTENTIOUS

PROVERBS 13:1-25

MEMORY VERSE: “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” (Proverbs 13:10)

Pride manifests in so many ways. Behind most unsolved conflicts or issues of misunderstanding in people’s lives is the spirit of pride. Most quarrelling, misunderstandings, and disagreements among people are simply rooted in pride. Proud people are usually guilty of trying to prove their superiority over others. Because of that, they boast, brag, and draw attention to self. Pride makes you look at yourself as someone superior to others, or even makes you feel that others are nobody. Pride makes you exalt yourself and look down on others. It makes you assume that you know better than others and become unteachable.

Overestimation of self is nothing but pride. One of my fathers in the Lord once said that pride makes us wear the mantle of Lucifer, because it was that same pride that turned the anointed cherub into Lucifer. No one has a future with God while harbouring pride. Pride makes people refuse to listen to anyone. With pride, you assume you know more than everyone. You see yourself as someone above correction, and you dislike being controlled or corrected by anyone. Disobedience toward authority or rebellion comes as a result of pride.

WISDOM NUGGET: The test of your humility is your teachability. If you are not teachable, you are proud.

PRAYER POINT: Father, I receive grace to respect those ahead of me. I receive grace to remain teachable, in Jesus name.
